The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum was built in 1926 as the Tokyo Prefectural Art Museum and has been used as a venue for public exhibitions.
In 1975, a new wing was completed, and in addition to its role as a venue for public exhibitions, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum has also held special exhibitions and conducted art promotion activities.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is now a venue for public exhibitions as well as co-hosting exhibitions with newspapers and other media.
