The Taito City Shitamachi Museum of Folklore is a museum located in Ueno Park that mainly introduces the culture of the Shitamachi area from the Edo period to the mid-Showa period.
In addition to hands-on programs, the museum also holds special exhibitions.
On the first floor, there is a reproduction of a townscape from the Taisho period with candy shops and tenement houses, a rickshaw and a telephone booth.
On the second floor, daily utensils and toys are displayed, and visitors can try playing games of the time such as BEGOMA.
The daily necessities on display are items that were actually used.
