Ameya Yokocho is a shopping street developed in the black market area during the chaos of the postwar period.
The origin of the name is not clear, as there are various theories.
There are more than 400 shops along the 400m-long street between Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station. The peak of the shopping street at the end of the year is broadcasted on TV as a poetic scene at the end of the year.
In the shopping street, there is Tokudaiji Temple dressed up like a shrine and a statue of the bustling crowd that is a symbol of the area.
